The full moon is upon us, so I thought I'd post a song I wrote for her. You WILL let me know if this starts to get too annoying, won't you?! I wrote this song about 3 years ago. I was listening to a lot of Fado at the time (probably the best way of explaining is that it's the Portuguese version of the Blues...if Billy Holiday had been Portuguese, she would have sung Fado!) I gave up trying to work out the words from CDs and decided to try and write something in English with the same feel to it (doesn't quite work, but oh well). Also I wanted a song that sounded like it was supposed to be sung without any accompaniment. And 'La Luna' was the result, a song about the sad, lonely lady moon.
So of course, one of the things I've been itching to do since I started learning guitar is work out an accompaniment for it. Entirely illogical, isn't it?! So had a fiddle around last night and worked out some chords, and discovered by accident a lovely 'flamencoey' sounding one, and put it together...roughly!
So I recorded both versions this morning...attempting (unsuccessfully) to avoid planes going over. Let me know which you like better!
And click here, and here, for some fantastic REAL Fado!

The chords you picked do provide a lovely accompaniment to the song, but I'm partial to the second version you posted. I don't know much about Fado, but I think #2 would be the perfect thing to sing, standing in a night-time field with your head raised to the sky...
This is beutiful music. I like the first version best.
Beautiful!!!! What talents you have!
Both lovely, I prefer the first version :)
i am soooo impressed by your skills on guitar! you're a natural :)
i have to say, i like the first one best too x
Both are beautiful, with very different qualities. The first one is magical, mystical and seems to have voice qualities of Fado with almost a Celtic take. The second seems more dramatic and closer to the Fado style. I like both. I have songs that I bring out sometimes alone, sometimes with accompaniment. Maybe this ones a good candidate for that.
Good to be reminded once again to get my act together and share some of my music, thanks and keep it up, I agree with Claire, you're totally a natural.
Listening to this song gave me goosebumps! I couldn't say which version I like best, they are equally good... I listened to the unaccompanied version first and its so powerful - you have to have a really good voice to sing unaccompanied and you really have! The guitar picks fit beneath beautifully and give it a soft lilting quality, its surprising how much it changes the feel of it.
I think the unnaccompanied version seems more empassioned, strong melodious and powerful, it pulls at you somewhere deep and emotional.
I love the lyrical shapes of the words bending into the melodies...
You have a real talent...
I am so in love with your song that I have played it 4 times now before I have commented, so annoying?? no way!
It is so nice to hear your voice, keep writing music so we can keep listening, it is so soothing, Im on here because I have 1/2 hour to kill before I have a phone appointment with a psychic lady, I was! freaking out about it but your song has left me all calm.
no where is the repeat button so I dont have to keep walking over here to the computer!!

Lovely music!
(the first one for me)
I'll be playing it more today...
Gorgeous, haunting love songs to the moon. They are both beautiful.
If you ever visit Dartmoor, I would LOVE it if you stopped me in the street to sing that to me - but then I am kind of biased. And I sing in the street too. Beautiful. Thank you.
