In 1995, when I was at uni studying theatre, I was in a production of The Trojan Women. I was part of the chorus, and there were a couple pieces in the play that were set as choral pieces (by my multi-talented little brother!)...funny that I can't remember a single spoken word, but I can still remember an entire long sung piece! Just checked out Eleni's pieces on Youtube, beautiful!A mermaid in the attichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01139858546037879539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7960060657339262513.post-10923219482426960102011-02-27T21:28:24.737+08:002011-02-27T21:28:24.737+08:00Wow! I've now listened to a couple more of her pieces and it's all so hauntingly beautiful.

What you say about language is true. It's strange how the written word is so often manipulated and interpreted by a person's life experiences. But music can be pure emotion and there is no misinterpretation. I can't imagine anyone telling Gerrard "You shouldn't feel that way."Maery Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09897994913879836634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7960060657339262513.post-4835435724312160822011-02-27T04:34:13.257+08:002011-02-27T04:34:13.257+08:00Some of the Circ de Soleil shows feature music wit...Some of the Circ de Soleil shows feature music with lyrics in a madeup language. It is funny--out of all the songs that I could have been thinking about that relate to your article--the one I was thinking most about was Inama Nushif, a song composed by Brian Tyler for the Children of Dune soundtrack. It is sung in the Fremen language, one that was invented for the book. But it sounds like it's a real and living language of this world. I'm so grateful for that foundation as it leaves me open to enjoying music that others seem so averse to. My response to that music just feels somehow purer to me, a deeper and more direct connection between the music and me. There is no concern or wondering over what the song is saying there is only beauty.

Thank you so much for posting the Lisa Gerrard piece, I hadn't been aware it was her singing on the Gladiator soundtrack. That music had always reminded me of the Adiemus albums from the 90's. I wonder was she involved with those? I wish I could add voice to my own pieces that I write, but I lack the "pipes" needed to make such utterly enchanting sounds. In everything I write that voice is always there in my head, but other instruments must play its notes instead. How fortunate are those who can open their mouths and express such emotion!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7960060657339262513.post-59952611730338746062011-02-26T22:45:18.072+08:002011-02-26T22:45:18.072+08:00I'm really looking forward to hearing some, Va...I'm really looking forward to hearing some, Valerianna! Some totally got it.... some very much didn't!

I'm listening to the song while I write and think, I've REALLY got to get my act together on posting my music.
