OMG...rain, rain and more RAIN!!!!!

Well, as they say, when it rains it pours!  No rain to speak of for about 3 months...and then THIS!  We were lucky, although I was a bit worried looking out the back french doors that I might have to start putting towels along the bottom of the door.  A fellow school mum had her games room 6 inches under water, and part of the roof of the local shopping centre collapsed, and the whole place was flooded.  Luckily, it seems no-one was hurt, but the damage bill is going to be huge.  Why can't mother nature just start a little earlier and a little less ferociously instead of suddenly deciding she has to make up for lost time?!  A few pics to give you an idea...not mine though, you wouldn't catch me out there with my camera (or without it either!)

Phew!  It's almost 5pm now, and I had hoped that all that rain might bring us a cool change, but no...it's been hot and sticky today. When, oh when, is Autumn really going to start?!

  2. It's like it's been saving it all up to cause an impact! (Looks more like the UK!) Forgive my ignorance but could I ask what a 'games room' is?xx

  4. We were very lucky, I didn't even realise the extent of the damage caused until I caught the news this morning. My parents had a bit of water damage (gutters a bit clogged with leaves they think), and lost part of their back fence, but are fine otherwise. Jessie, a 'games room' is usually an extra room added on to an existing house, sometimes even just a glorified shed, where a pool table, or table tennis table and the like are kept, where the kids can play (or dad could invite his mates around to watch the footy, before there were such things as 'home theatre' rooms!). A rumpus room really. Though a lot of houses nowadays are built with them.

  6. Yes what a fabulous storm. ( I mean its terrible there was so much damage) but my children loved watching the lightening and listening to the thunder. We are lucky we did'nt get it as badly as the northern suburbs. I am just south of Mandurah and while our front garden was awash it drained away pretty fast!

  7. Hay, We only get rain storms like this in England...What is going on, in OZ?
Mind you, having said that, I remember the tropical rain storms in Queensland. It was amazing to watch. I use to love the thunder and lightening shows across the Brisbane skyline, with the flying Fruit Bats or Flying Foxes, (I like that name better). It was like some kind of horror movie!:)
    Stay safe.
    Jo. xx

P.S. Thank you for your lovely comment about your ancestors. I think it is quite sad about the past, how a lot of innocent people were sent to Australia for simply stealing a loaf of bread and even little children were deported. Especially from Scotland, where the laws use to be very strict.
Australia is a great country to live and I really miss it. Strange weather and all!:)

  8. Glad to hear you didn't get flooded, Michelle...my aunt lives down Mandurah way as well, right on the beach, and she said it had eased a lot be the time it got there. Joanne, we do get these big storms, but this was a bad one, and after months of no rain we're never ready for it! I love storms myself, must be all the negative ions that are flying around! Yes I have an interesting lot of ancestors...I'm named after my great, great grandmother Cairistiona, family tradition is that gaelic was her first language, and she still remembered the 'crakes' (or creaks) from when she was a little girl in Scotland...which apparently were the bodies of criminals hanging at crossroads, because they used to 'creak' in the wind...EEEEYOUUUUWK!!!

  9. Hi there! I'm staying in Fremantle at the moment and witnessed the amazing storm from the balcony - wow!
But even more wow - those sunsets the following couple of days - spectacular, truly spectacular paintings in the sky. Wow, I like it here.

  10. Wow Stargazer, it must have been pretty amazing...and hair-raising down in Freo! Although I was down there yesterday and didn't see much damage, which I was quite surprised at...saw more on the way down. I also had a look at the 'Sculplture by the Sea' in Cottelsoe, and was really surprised that there seemed almost no damage at all. Strange how it hit some suburbs hard and others, right by the beach, didn't get much at all!
